After all of the offensive struggles in 2024, the Braves announced the firing of longtime hitting coach Kevin Seitzer soon after the season ended. It was a bit of surprise, because just a few days before Seitzer was let go, Brian Snitker told the media he expected the entire staff to be back for 2025. It’s also tough to blame the hitting coach when nearly the entire lineup missed significant time, especially after Seitzer helped the club to a historically great offensive season just a year earlier.
With that being said, some sort of shakeup was needed, whether it be on the coaching side of things or personnel. The Braves, despite winning nearly 300 games over the last three seasons, have not won a playoff series since they won the World Series three years ago, in part because of their struggles offensively in October.
Kevin Seitzer shouldn’t have a problem landing on his feet if he desires to continue coaching, and the Braves wasted no time replacing him, announcing the hire of Tim Hyers today to be the club’s hitting coach.

Tim Hyers is an Atlanta, Georgia native that has built an incredible resumé since joining the coaching ranks. He was the hitting coach for the Red Sox from 2018-2021, helping the organization to the 2018 World Series. He then joined the Rangers organization, winning another ring with Texas last year.
Now, he’ll join the Braves organization, and the hope is that he can bring some of that World Series magic with him. There aren’t many places better for a hitting coach to thrive. Talent for talent, there isn’t a lineup nearly as deep as the Braves when everybody’s healthy, and it could look even better after Alex Anthopoulos makes some tweaks this offseason.
