Today, the Columbus Clingstones — the Atlanta Braves AA affiliate — announced Craig Kimbrel has been added to their roster.
“The Atlanta Braves announced today that veteran closer Craig Kimbrel has been transferred from the Florida Complex League Braves to the Columbus Clingstones, marking his first appearance with a Braves Double-A affiliate since 2009 with Mississippi,” the club announced in a press release.
“Kimbrel and the Clingstones will face the Pensacola Blue Wahoos in the inaugural game at Synovus Park at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15. Listen to the game live on Sports Visions 92.1 FM or watch on Bally Sports Live.”
The Braves bullpen is in desperate need of more arms. It’s been one of the worst in baseball through the first 15 games, recording a collective 4.44 ERA, which ranks 24th in the league, a far cry from last year when the club ranked third.
Hopefully, Craig Kimbrel can offer the team something, but after posting a 5.33 ERA last year for the Orioles, there’s no guarantee he’s going to be any different than what the Braves already have, and he’s certainly not going to come in and save the group by himself.
