The Decatur Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced that it has renewed funding for three grant programs designed to support local businesses through financial aid.
Included in the funding renewals were the Commercial Facade Improvement Grant (CFIG), Commercial Buildout Improvement Grant (CBIG) and Marketing and Digital Connectivity Grant (MDCG).
Receiving the bulk of the funding replenishment was CFIG, which was allocated $100,000 to help businesses with enhancements to storefronts and awnings.
$50,000 has been given to CBIG, which focuses on interior improvements for commercial buildings like retail shops, restaurants, bakeries and breweries, covering various upgrades such as wall repairs and HVAC improvements, among others.
Finally, MDCG garnered $25,000, which will be used to assist small businesses with improving their online presence by creating various digital content and marketing materials.
“As we carefully built these grant programs over the last 18 months, we saw an enthusiastic response from our small businesses that made it clear we were making a difference,” said Conor McNally, DDA chair.
“These targeted grants are helping our small businesses make critical improvements, and since they are the beating heart of Downtown Decatur, we are proud to do our part to keep them strong.”
For eligible projects, the grants will cover up to 75% of costs, with the business responsible for contributing at least 25%.
CFIG and CBIG will offer grants between $2,500 and $10,000 per approved project, while MDCG offers between $250 and $2,500.
Additionally, CFIG microgrants of up to $1,000 are available to cover smaller expenses like graffiti removal or repairs to broken windows or doors.
The application period for the trio of grant programs opened back on Oct. 23, with the final day to apply falling on Nov. 15.
After the application window closes, the DDA oversight committee will review all submissions, with applicants receiving notifications following the development authority’s final review.
