Early Open Thread: Shane Beamer Could Do The Funniest Thing….
Photo by Carly Mackler/Getty Images We have on our hands, relatively intriguing early television lineup this week. Shane Beamer’s South Carolina Gamecocks travel to Tuscaloosa to take on an Alabama team that definitely isn’t reeling from a road loss to Vanderbilt. I don’t anticipate the Gamecock squad that was dominated last week by Ole Miss to waltz into Bryant-Denny and pull an upset. But to paraphrase high school football legend David Wooderson, it’d be a lot cooler if they did. (Noon, ESPN) There are few things more boring than watching Georgia Tech football. But watching Georgia Tech football on the CW might be right up there. This week however Yellow Jackwt football sponsored by Dawson’s Creek faces a North Carolina team led by Mack Brown, who may well retire to a life of whittling and fishing sooner than he’d planned if he can’t get things turned around in Chapel Hill. (Noon, CW) #21 Missouri, fresh of being utterly exposed by Texas A&M, inexplicably is on the road at UMass. Them boys maybe ain’t SEC, Paul. (ESPN2) And for those fans of old Rose Bowl predictions that have become actual Big Ten conference matchups, Washington and Iowa will square off in a matchup of teams that want to push the ball downfield (hello Huskies) and that want to win ugly football games by taking advantage of teams that try to push the ball downfield (You betcha, Hawkeyes). (Noon, Fox). If you like watching people get unnecessarily close to wood chippers then find out why that’s a bad idea, this one’s for you. We will be back with the traditional Bulldog live thread prior to Georgia’s 4:15 kick against Mississippi State in Athens. Until then… Go Dawgs!!!
