Falcons continue to prioritize special teams in free agency

The Falcons might field the best special teams unit in the league with the way they’re attacking that area of the roster in free agency.

With the signings of Mike Ford and KhaDarel Hodge, Atlanta is prioritizing the third phase of the game, even more so with their latest free agent addition. According to Mike Garafolo, the club is inking Jamal Agnew to a one-year deal worth up to $2.5 million if he hits certain incentives.

After breaking his leg in 2023, Agnew missed all of the 2024 campaign, but as Garafolo notes, he’s a dangerous returner if he’s healthy. In 2023, the All-Pro averaged 10.3 yards per punt return. Compared to what the Falcons had in Avery Williams, that’s a substantial upgrade.

He does bring some juice as a receiver as well, if the Falcons see him in that role. He had 14 catches for 225 yards and a touchdown in 2023. Welcome to Atlanta, Jamal Agnew!
