Game Day Morning Open Thread
Photo by Jeffrey Vest/Icon Sportswire via Getty Images It’s a chilly morning in the Classic City as your Georgia Bulldogs get up and try to get amped up for a contest with the UMass Minutemen. A few morning links of note: As we’ve harped on here, and as others around, the Bulldog-centered Internet have noted, the big challenge for today is likely motivation. Coming off an emotional, electric nighttime win against Tennessee and headed toward a big rivalry showdown with Georgia Tech which carries with it a likely a playoff birth, this could easily be a look-ahead game. Playing your best game on a day like today often comes down to having the right leadership on your football team. But don’t take it from me, take it from Coach Smart: : @KirbySmartUGA | #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/Lb2diFFoCg— Georgia Football (@GeorgiaFootball) November 22, 2024 The college football playoff is looming, and one of the major stories this week has been the somewhat stilted playoff rankings which came out on Tuesday. Perhaps the most amusing commentary on those rankings that I have seen is this recent piece from Joel Klatt at Fox, in which he essentially admits that Kirby Smart is right that the committee’s rankings are incohesive, that Georgia is likely better than the Miami team it’s ranked behind, but whines and whinges about Kirby actually pointing it out. there is still some nuance that needs to be ironed out of these scenarios, but the bottom line is that if Georgia beats the Minutemen and the Jackets, it will be very hard to keep them out of the playoff. In the 12 team era, I think we’re going to find that getting to the end of the season with the ability to control your own. Destiny is going to be the holy Grail for most teams in college football. We’re there. Finally, your morning wake up music, courtesy of Trombone Shorty: Until later…. Go ‘Dawgs!!!
