GymDogs Host Alabama In Measuring Stick Meet
The Georgia GymDogs return to action tonight in Stegeman Coliseum for an SEC meet that should tell us a bit more about where the program’s rebuild stands. The #12 ranked Red and Black host #14 Alabama at 7:00 p.m., fresh off a solid showing in Gainesville against Florida last Friday. While the ‘Dawgs fell to the Gators 198.125 to 196.825, they tied their highest score of the season in a tough road environment. Freshman Brooke Gliechowski tied for first overall on the beam with a career-high 9.950, the highest individual score received by any GymDog so far in the season. Gleichowski’s score capped a season-high 49.350 in the event for the GymDogs. Fellow freshman Nyla Aquino continued to impress, scoring a 9.925 on the vault. As a team Georgia was a handful of stuck landings away from a truly impressive outing, and it feels like this squad could break out soon. Tonight would be a great time for a breakthrough effort. Alabama has dominated the Bulldogs in recent years, but UGA comes into this meet as, if not the favorite, a team with a chance to win a meet against an impressive squad. While the Tide are ranked #14 but coming off a disappointing loss to #1 ranked Oklahoma last week in which they scored only a 196.300. A win in the Stege would give the ‘Dawgs their first win of the young SEC season, and a big shot of confidence as they head into the meat of a brutal SEC campaign. The meet will be televised on SEC Network. Until later… Go ‘Dawgs!!!
