The body of former President Jimmy Carter will lie in repose at The Carter Center from 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4, through 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, before being taken to Washington, D.C., for services there.
MARTA said in a press release that it will provide bus shuttle service from King Memorial rail station to The Carter Center for those who wish to pay tribute to the nation’s only president from Georgia. Those attending the viewing must take a bus to The Carter Center unless they plan to walk or bike.
President Carter, who died Dec. 29 at age 100, also served two terms as a Georgia State Senator and the state’s 76th governor from 1971 to 1975. During his first year as governor, voters passed a one percent sales tax to fund MARTA operations.

MARTA is especially grateful for his leadership in bringing public transportation plans to fruition in metro Atlanta, and we are proud to help pay tribute to him.”
