Rome is full of natural beauty, as well as many murals created by some very talented artists. Here are a few murals to check out in Georgia’s Rome.
‘Seize the Day‘ Mural
This piece is located on the side of ‘The Shoe Box’ on Martha Berry Highway. It was created by the Rome Mural Colab, in an effort to promote inclusivity and diversification in the Rome-Floyd community. It represents a variety of different landmarks in Rome in a colorful and unique way.
‘Coca-Cola’ Mural
A native Roman, by the name of Dr. John Pemberton, invented Coca-Cola. The rights to the popular beverage were later sold to Asa Candler. This mural, honoring Coca-Cola, is painted in Downtown Rome. The full history of Coca-Cola in Georgia’s Rome can be found at the Rome Area History Center.
‘Welcome to Cave Spring’ Mural
This mural, located in Cave Spring, Georgia, is a part of the Georgia Mural Trail. Painted by John W. Christian, the piece highlights the Georgia School for the Deaf and Native American heritage in the area. There are many different murals to visit in the Georgia Mural Trail.
Cabell’s Designs
Located in the River District, this business features a beautiful outdoor space and mural on their exterior building. This ceramic design shop isn’t open to the public, but we sure do appreciate the beautiful outdoor space they created!
‘The River District’ Mural
Painted by Bryan Hollingsworth from Just B Artistic, this mural welcomes guests to the River District. It is located on the walking trail near the Fifth Avenue Bridge. The colorful piece is a great welcome to Rome for tourists!
AdventHealth ECO Greenway – Bug and Bloom Mural
Located on the AdventHealth Redmond ECO Greenway this mural is located between the Chieftains Museum and the dog park. The mural is titled, ‘Bug ‘n’ Bloom,’ highlights pollinators including birds, butterflies and bees and the beautiful plants they pollinate.
Renee Peterson, the creative force behind the mural, dedicated over 60 hours meticulously layering paints, delicately crafting a visual narrative where nature emerges as the focal point against a soft backdrop of natural hues. Peterson, reflecting on this ambitious project shared, “This mural was deeply personal to me. I love my community, and I wanted this mural to be not just beautiful, but meaningful—a testament to the natural beauty that surrounds us.”
Kingfisher Trail Mural
The Kingfisher Trail is a section of the ECO Greenway Trail. The murals pictured above are painted sewer drains that are recognizing endangered and threatened wildlife in Rome and Floyd County. As you’re walking the trails, pay attention to these beautiful and unique pieces!
‘Coca-Cola’ Mural in Cave Spring
This mural is another ‘Coca-Cola’ themed piece, and is located in Downtown Cave Spring. It is also apart of the Georgia Mural Trail, and was painted by John W. Christian.
Cedar Creek Park Murals
Both murals pictured above are located at Cedar Creek Park. The park includes RV parking, kayaking and hiking. Not only are the murals a must see, the park itself is a beautiful location to check out. They are both great backdrops to grab a photo!
‘Think Big’ Mural
The painting pictured above is another piece located in Rome’s beautiful River District. The mural reads the phrase, “Think Big,” with a lightbulb. It is painted on the side of the ‘Realty One Group Insight’ building to match the business’ logo colors.
‘Swift and Finch Coffee’ Mural
‘Swift and Finch Coffee’ is located in Downtown Rome. This mural is painted on the side of the business’s building with their logo.
‘Mellow Mushroom’ Mural
“Mellow Mushroom,” located in Downtown Rome, is a favorite pizza spot of many Romans! The mural shown above is painted on the stairs inside the restaurant.
‘Harvest Moon Cafe’ Mural
“Harvest Moon Cafe” is another local favorite in Downtown Rome. Their menu is very diverse, with lots of different delicious items. The mural shown on the left is painted on the outside of their building. The mural on the right is painted inside the restaurant.
‘Sara Hightower Regional Library’ Murals
The “Sara Hightower Regional Library’ is located right on the river in Downtown Rome. Both murals shown above are painted on the Public Library property!
‘Vargo Orthodontist’ Butterfly Mural
This beautiful new mural by professional muralist, Kelsey Montague, is located beside Vargo Orthodontist. Dr. Vargo initiated the project to encourage people to be kind and uses the hashtag, #VOGoBeeTheHero.
