Sandy Springs high school students can apply to the Youth Leadership Sandy Springs Class of 2026. The seven-month Leadership Perimeter program teaches the skills necessary for collaborative leadership.

High school sophomores, juniors, and seniors will explore the city and meet with other students. They will connect with government, business, environmental, public safety, and non-profit leaders.

“Since our first day out as a group, I have felt a wonderful connection to this program and the students involved, from meeting students from other schools and working together to feed families in the Metro Atlanta area, to working with government officials to keep our city safe and happy. I have been so happy to join this program and learn more about this city than I have lived in my whole life,” said Claire Busch of Riverwood International Charter School, a Youth Leadership class of 2025 member.

Applications are being accepted through March 31, which can be submitted online. The students must reside or attend school in Sandy Springs. More than 500 students have graduated from the Youth Leadership Sandy Springs program since 2012. Many lead school clubs, teams, and youth organizations and go on to serve as leaders in their colleges, careers, and beyond.

In the Youth Leadership program, students take part in experiential learning, build connections, strengthen leadership skills and get the “inside scoop” into how their community operates. They learn the importance of community engagement, advocacy, and service. Students build upon their skills to become future leaders and community advocates for Sandy Springs.

“I’m inspired by the enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment that we see from students each year. Upon graduation, both students and parents share what a transformative experience the program has been, building leadership skills and confidence while priming our teens for roles in their community,” said Lori Peljovich, youth program director of Leadership Perimeter.

Program sponsors include Atlanta Orthopedic Specialists, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Couchman Noble Foundation, Inspire Foundation, The Sandy Springs Society, and Smurfit Westrock.

“Getting to see the city from this new perspective and being able to witness the community at this grassroots level can provide the inspiration for you to become the next agent of change in your city, or introduce you to a new career that interests you. Or if nothing else, gives you a good excuse to miss school for something fun,” said Karuna Damle, a Riverwood student and a member of the Youth Leadership Class of 2023.
