Watch live: Senate to vote on funding deal ahead of shutdown deadline

The Senate is slated to vote on the interim funding package to avoid government shutdown on Friday night ahead of the midnight deadline.

The lower chamber, earlier in the evening Friday, voted 366-34-1 in support of the legislation, clearing the two-thirds threshold needed for passage, since GOP leadership brought the bill to the floor under the fast-track suspension of the rules process.

The package — which Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) rolled out shortly before the vote — would fund the government at current levels through March 14, extend the farm bill for one year and appropriate billions of dollars in disaster relief and assistance for farmers.

Following the Friday vote, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) encouraged the "swift passage" of the deal in the Senate.

Johnson unveiled a bipartisan funding deal Tuesday evening, which was torpedoed Wednesday after President-elect Trump and his close allies urged GOP lawmakers to oppose it.

Trump called for Congress to take up a debt ceiling hike, which was not mentioned at all in the first plan — a request many lawmakers took as a surprise

On Thursday, Johnson presented plan B to lawmakers, nixing dozens of measures and including new language raising the debt ceiling. Trump backed the new plan, but it failed to pass the House after all but two Democrats and 38 Republicans opposed the bill.
